World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) calls for SAARC regional ICT Forum

A three-day regional meeting of WSIS called for setting up a SAARC Regional ICT Forum to monitor the e-strategy of the member countries and help resolve the problems of implementation of ICT policy in the region, reports UNB.

The proposed ICT forum could also develop an approach to ensuring successful implementation of ICT policies at country level, said the Civil Society regional consultation meeting of World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) held in Dhaka from January 7-9.

Discussants from regional countries including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and the Philippines emphasized on establishing the SAARC ICT Forum to foster 14 agendas of regional interest in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The meeting was organized by the Bangladesh Friendship Education Society (BFES) in collaboration with Bangladesh Working Group on World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).
