Goods train derails in Comilla :Driver killed: Eastern rail links disrupted

At least one person was killed and three others injured critically as five wagons of a goods train derailed in Dhaka -Chittagong rail route yesterday. The accident caused suspension of train services
in at least four important rail routes forcing thousands of passengers to remain stranded at different points for hours.
According to the eye-witnesses, wagons derailed when the Chittagong -bound goods train coming from Dhaka reached Lalmai area under Comilla at about 12-30 PM yesterday.
The driver of the train identified as Sirajul Ilsam died on the spot while the injured persons were rushed to the nearby hospital in a critical condition.
Railway Office sources admitted that train services in Dhaka. Chittagong, Noakhali, Chandpur and Sylhet routes remained snapped following the mishap
The train services did not resume in those areas till filing of this report at 8 PM..
After the accident the relief train rushed to the place of occurrence from Laksam and recovered the body of the driver while carrying out rescue operation there.The body of the deceased was trapped in one of the derailed wagons of the train, official sources said.
The assistants of the killed driver who sustained serious injuries were identified as Abdul Barek, Shahidul Islam and Abu Taher.
Officials of the Railway Department said that killed Sirajul Islam was residing with his family members at Laksam railway colony and he hailed from Mymensingh.
Officials also pointed out that another relief train from Akhaura also reached the spot at 7-30 PM to carry out rescue operation so that train services in different routes could resume ending the sufferings of the thousands of passengers.
Meanwhile, the high officials of the Railway Department visited the spot. Officials said that a probe body had been formed to ascertain the cause of the accident. Informed circles, however, suspected that technical faults might have caused the accident.
