Vietnamese scientist visits BRRI

Dr Bui Chi Buu, a distinguished Vietnamese scientist and Director General of Cuulong Delta Rice Research Institute, has visited Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur recently.

Dr M Mahiul Haque, BRRI Director General, briefed the guest about the achievements and research activities of the institute. Dr M A Baqui, BRRI Dr Buu presented a report on the modern rice cultivation in Vietnam.

Dr M.A. Salam, Head of Plant Breeding Division, briefed about the variety development research activities at BRRI.

The speakers stressed the need to maintain close relationship between the scientists of both the countries, as well as, exchange programmes on the experiences regarding the procurement of extra early and slender grain rice varieties, and irrigation management.

Director (Research), Dr Nazira Quoraishi Kamal, Director (Admin.), senior scientists, and officials were present on the occasion.

Dr Buu visited 'upland transplant Aus' and 'deepwater rice research trial' sites of the institute.

He also visited the saline prone research sites for testing rice varieties from Vietnam in Khulna.
