Country-wide crackdown by RAB, 12 JMB militants arrested

The Rapid Action Battalion has been conducting countrywide crackdown on the Islamist terrorist and arrested about 12 militants of banned Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from different parts of the country on Friday.
A special squad of RAB comprising the members of Headquarters and Battalions arrested three activists also recovered 30 KGs of Ammonium Nitrate conducting raid at a secret den of JMB at Keranuganj in the small hours of Wednesday.
The arrested JMB cadres were identified as Jamil, Shamshuddin Aftab and Monirul Islam.
In Sunamganj district, RAB recovered a huge quantity of bomb making materials from a JMB hideout at Vati Tahirpur area in the morning.
Of the recovered bomb making materials, there were 6 Non-electric detonators, 3 Safety fuses and 3 High explosive power gels, sources said.
A powerful bomb was recovered at Moder Abgari crossing in Sadar upazila of Sirajganj Friday morning.
Locals saw the bomb, wrapped with wire and red-tape, lying on the road at about 9:00 am, police said.
On Information, a police team from the local thana recovered the bomb and kept it in a bucketful of water.
“Had it been exploded, the bomb could have caused extensive damage and huge casualties,” a police official said.
In Sirajganj, police arrested four people – Abdul Baten (47), Asraf Ali (39), Abdul Mannan (35) and Moulana Jalaluddin (44) – suspecting them to be IMB men.
In Chapainawabganj, plainclothes police arrested a suspected militant – Samsuzzaman Bokul (27) – from Angariapara area in the town.
In Bagerhat, two people – Mohammed Abdullah (45) and Moulana Mizanur Rahman – were arrested on suspicion that they might have links with JMB.
In Pabna, police arrested two JMB suspects – Faqrul Islam (40), Moslem Ali (25) – from Sadar upzila.
BDNews: The arrested four top JMB leaders, including Chittagong militant commander Javed Iqbal alias Mohammad, have been placed on 10-day remand on Friday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Maksudur Rahman granted 10-day remand after the Investigation Officer prayed for remand for interrogation. An arms case was filed against the militant with Pahartali police station.
The rest three placed on remand are JMB chief of Cox'sbazar Naimuzzaman alias Sagar, Monirul Islam alias Roman, and Rafiqul Islam alias Javed also second-in-command of Mohammad.
The arrestees have produced before the court amidst tight escort by the elite force RAB and police and they have been taken again to RAB office where are likely to be interrogated during the remand by joint interrogation cell.
Meanwhile two separate cases – one arms and another explosives -- have been filed with city's Pahartali police station and Cox'sbazar police against the arrested JMB militants.
A source linked with the investigation said that the police might seek further remand after the end of the 10-day remand of the arrested JMB cadres in explosives case.
