Recently all the higher educational institutions are unrest. Once we saw the rival political groups had fought each other and for their clashes educational institutions would become unrest. But from the beginning of the ruling government, the opposition-backed students’ organizations have almost become inactive.
Since then Bangladesh Chhtra League (BCL) is doing some heinous activities one by one and the government has pretended as if nowhere happened anything. But the problem has got new dimension because students’ and teachers’ of different institutions are completely fed up for the administrative failure and corruption of the teachers, creation of VC, Pro-VC and highly administrative-backed students’ groups to dominate the general students and even those so-called students beat and harass their teachers
For example, for last two years Jahangirnagar University, for six months BUET, for four years Rajshahi University and so on is unrest. From a reliable source we know at lest 20 public universities, 35 colleges under National University and 8 polytechnic institutions are reportedly facing crisis for which most of their teachers and students blame the political appointees and ruling party’s student wing. As a result, the academic life of students has gone uncertain.
The Vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor and treasurer as well as some teachers are suing counter-suing each-other, regarding recruitment and retrenchment issues. So they have forgotten what their duties and responsibilities are. By this time, the students have already lost three years from their lives and they see an ocean of dark in their future career.
The allegation against the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University is strong and everyone believes that he is a representative of autocracy. In order to longer his era he is applying all the unlawful activities and he is involved in recruitment business. As a part of rivalry with the VC recently the Dhaka University pro-VC and the register resigned from their posts and about 30 senate members also sent a letter to him asking to give elections to VC-panel. In addition, he has failed to arrange VC-panel election to fulfill his black desire.
Not only that, but also we have seen an interesting drama staged at Jahangirnagar University. After a long-struggle and protest the previous VC went out shamelessly and after that every one has started dreaming for change. They have seen a change that has increased their pain and suffering more. It is usual because the present VC of Jahangirnagar University is an out-sider. That’s why violating all the rules, he arranged a camera VC-panel election there and by managing high authority of the government he is continuing authoritive power illegally. He has proved himself as a blind devoted member of present government. So he has avoided finding out the criminal of last clash before Eid at campus.
What the VC, Pro-VC and government are doing together at BUET is becoming a part of notorious history and that has gone to defeat all the previous history. The VC has been remained the post unchanged as he was the lodging master of the present Prime Minister. No one cares the future of the students. So non-fulfillment of the logical demands of BUET teachers, students, staffs had turned into a movement. so why has the concern authority fail to meet their demand before time runs out?
How pathetic it is when students of BUET claim, “We hear the Vice Chancellor Professor SM Nazrul Islam left Khulna University after bloodshed. Does he want our blood? There is no need to send is musclemen. We will give him blood.” As a result we see by drawing their own blood in syringes and splattering it in front of the VC’s office. Besides, students and teachers, the forth class employees are also demanding his quit. How shame it is a sweeper is against a teacher for his corruption! Don’t they spoil the nobility of the teaching profession?
The historic MC College of Sylhet has been in turmoil since July 8 and a hundred-years old building was fired by BCL. Seeing that the Education Minister rushed there and left his tears of the destruction. Seeing the tears of him the nation hoped that the criminal would be punished. Alas! He proved that was a crocodile-tear.
This way one after one education institution has been collapsed across the country. Finally we see a decision against the admission test for Medical science candidates has added new dimension in crisis. We can’t think whereas we have not yet assured a qualified and credible exam system to hunt the real talent, how do we think to get admitted the students for medical science without admission? We would not worry if the candidates would the decision. But they demand they want to prove themselves. As it is decided in the court, the government has changed its decision. But so far last two months students were in roads and could not study at all for uncertainty. Will government give back their time? Was it necessary for government?
The crises raise huge questions in our mind against government’s tendency. Why has the government destroyed academic atmosphere in the country’s educational institutions by politicizing their administration? Does the government want to make the students like them; so that they can be also corrupted?
What people can realize is not felt by the politicians. The crisis is ruining students’ academic life severely. It should be ended with a smooth policy so that we need not fall in the same problem again. We should feel the truth and fact for making a “Sonar Bangla.”
