RE: PM on dinner party of WB panel

Wednesday October 17 2012 20:57:20 PM BDT

By Zoglul Husain, UK

Thank you for sharing the 'Kaler Kontho' report, 16 October 2012, on Hasina's questions about the intent of the 'informal dinner', on Monday evening, of the World Bank panel with Kamal Hossain, Mahfuz Anam, Sadiq Ahmed (H T Imam's son-in-law) and Barrister Manjur Hasan.

Hasina has been talking about the conspiracy of another possible '1/11 2007' scenario. How conveniently has she forgotten that she called '1/11' the 'crop' of her movement and that she usurped power in 2008 through a rigged election of 'understanding' (said Jalil) with the 'help of the army' (said Ershad) with pre-determined results!! It was because of 1/11 2007 that she is illegally in power now!!

In particular, she bitterly questioned about why the TIB published such a report pointing finger at the parliament saying that 'about 97 percent of 149 parliamentarians in 42 districts are involved in various negative activities', of whom '53.5 percent' committed crimes like killing, land grabbing, extortion and tender manipulation (http://www.unbconnect.com/component/news/task-show/id-91506), when the WB panel were visiting Bangladesh!

She reacted in the same way about the dinner held by the France Ambassador, Michel Trinquier, with Tofail, Jalil, Zafarullah, Saber and Akhteruzzaman, whom she called 'reformers'. She called the dinner a conspiracy (http://thenewnationbd.com/newsdetails.aspx?newsid=54404).

Another event that looks very significant, as the above ones, is the appearance on the media of the missing driver, in the Suranjit's 'black cat' episode, to affirm that the money in the car was for Suranjit. The driver disappeared again. The people (BGB, intel or any other group), who were involved in this high drama of the appearance and disappearance again of the driver, must now be more powerful than Hasina's network, to be able to do that!

These events may be bad omens for Hasina's political future and for her present government! Her intuition says it is '1/11' again, but, even if it is, she and her mentors seem to be powerless to do anything about it. Her attempt to reign in the talk shows and curb the media in her BKSAL-2 autocracy is likely to be counterproductive as her father's BKSAL-1.

The whole political situation is tense and we must be prepared all the way for any unfolding scenario, whether it is '1/11' or election or any kind of clash or even any kind of internal or external offensive. We may hope for the best, but we must be prepared for the worst i.e. must be prepared for all eventualities!!
