Threat to Shaon -High Court rule against Dr Ehsan's arrest

The High Court issued a rule upon the government to explainwhy the arrest of Dr Ehsan should not be declared illegal and why he should notbe freed. An HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and JusticeFarid Ahmed issued the rule following habeas corpus Wednesday.(The New Nation )

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka district, Major Sadikur Rahmanof RAB-3 and Officer-in-Charge of Ramna Thana were made respondents to therule. The court also asked the authorities concerned to produce Dr Ehsan beforethe court at 10:30am Thursday. On October 14, a RAB-3 team held Ehasan fromcity's Eskaton area on charge of giving life threat to Shaon on Facebook.

On October 15, Dr Ehsanuzzman Khan, detained on charge ofposting abusive comments on Facebook against Meher Afroz Shaon, widow of notedwriter Humayun Ahmed, confessed to his guilt to Rapid Action Battaliion (RAB).

Ehasan, 36, a doctor of Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, toldjournalists at a press conference organised by RAB that he is a die hard fan ofsoap-opera teller Humayun Ahmed and supposed Shaon responsible for the death ofthe writer.

Later, he formed a group on Facebook titled 'We Hate MeherAfroz Shaon' comprising around 1200 members.

The group issued life threat to Shaon and spread propagandaagainst her, he admitted.
